When our hearts are clean and we have committed ourselves to obey God, sometimes it’s still difficult to know how to pray according to God’s will. But when our hearts are clean and we have committed ourselves to the Word of God, we have the assurance of knowing that God takes the responsibility of showing us. God uses Scripture, and sometimes He may use circumstances. If our request isn’t in keeping with His will, He will redirect our attention to Him, and we will lose interest in what we are asking. Often we will have to wait. But it is during these times of waiting that we begin to really know God. As we find God’s will in our prayers, He confirms it by filling our hearts with the peace of the Holy Spirit. “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:6–7). Peace in our hearts is God’s seal of approval on our prayers. God desires to give us direction in our prayers. He has promised in His Word to do so. Our responsibility is to seek His direction through Scripture. Once we have found His promise to us, we must dig in and wait while thanking Him for what is already ours. For “if God be for us” (Rom. 8:31) in our prayers, who or what can stand against us?
